How To Repair A Leaky Teapot
Introduction
This shows how to repair a guitar pot instead of having to replace information technology with a new one. I was able to prepare mine instead of having to accept it to a repair store.
Before you lot begin exist sure to disconnect all cables from the Electric Guitar (mine is a Fender) and read safety precautions. You will have to de-solder some wires earlier y'all can remove the pot. Have photos before starting so you know where each wire goes when you lot reassemble.
-
-
Once y'all have removed the affected pot (potentiometer) from the guitar, set it on a stable surface. Take photos or make note of how everything fits together and so you put information technology all back together the same style. I also made marks to help. Curve dorsum the tabs that hold it together as shown in the photo.
-
-
-
Brand notation of how it is positioned and then lift off the metal stem holder.
-
-
-
lift off the dark-brown fiberboard piece. Yous will see the loose slice underneath it that was separated from the stem. Annotation the hole in the black plastic where the stem used to fit into.
-
-
-
Lift out the loose slice. Note the black tab on it.
-
-
-
Y'all now accept all the pieces laid out. Note that the stem has a slot finish that is the same shape every bit the hole in the loose slice (made of black plastic in the previous photo.
-
-
-
Start the reassembly process by inserting the stalk with the knurled knob finish upwardly.
-
-
-
Put the metal stem holder piece on top of the brown fiberboard piece aligning them in the process. Be sure to marshal them in the same orientation that they were in before disassembly. Refer to your starting photos or diagrams.
-
-
-
Adjacent starting time to align the loose piece (black plastic) over the cease of the stem. You volition take to align the pigsty in the black plastic piece with the terminate of the stem. The brown fiberboard slice must be in betwixt at this point. Also note how the small tab on the metal stalk holder is not quite matching up with its slot in the fiberboard. Run into next photo
-
-
-
Hither the metal stem holder is properly aligned with the fiberboard. This is of import because all three pieces must be aligned in gild for information technology to go back together completely. Advisedly align the hole in the black plastic piece with the slot on the stop of the stem and get it started by pressing down on the blackness piece till it begins to get together.
-
-
-
Notice a hard surface to practise the side by side step on. I used a cloth to assist stabilize the pot. Note the end of the slotted stem inside the pigsty of the blackness plastic piece. Information technology is correctly lined upwardly and but beginning to get into the pigsty. It volition fit very tightly. use a finger to printing downward more while keeping everything aligned. Takes a lot of force per unit area.
-
-
-
Take y'all time and work information technology gradually until the stop of the stem is well inserted in the hole of the black plastic piece. Keep checking to see that all three pieces are nevertheless properly aligned. Annotation that now the stalk is more visible above the surface of the black plastic and all 3 pieces are still aligned correctly. At this point it is assembled.
-
-
-
You are ready to put it back into the dorsum of the pot. Note the tab inside the metal pot backing. Y'all'll take to put it back in the same alignment that it was in earlier disassembly. also the plastic tab on the black plastic piece volition demand to go to either side of the metal tab otherwise you won't be able to put the metal backing on. See next.
-
-
-
Hither you see the blackness tab previously mentioned. Put the two pieces together that you see in the photo in the same alignment that they were earlier disassembly. Turn the stem either to the left or right then the metal tab in the backing and the blackness tab are non directly on tiptop of one another and everything should become together tightly. See next.
-
-
-
Here you see that the tabs take been bent dorsum to the position that they were before disassembly and the pot is now reassembled!
-
-
-
Supercede the pot back into the guitar pickguard so it is in its proper alignment on the guitar. Begin to reattach any de-soldered connections. Mine needed two wires reattached. Put yours back together then they are the same every bit they were before you began disassembly. Refer to your initial photos or diagram.
-
-
-
Advisedly adhere your reassembled pot to the guitar and gently tighten simply don't over tighten. Be sure the pot does not twist out of position while you are doing this.
-
-
-
Put the knob dorsum on ( I put mine back on with but minimal pressure , just enough to proceed it from falling off, I don't want it to come out again!) Done.
-
Conclusion
To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in opposite order.
